(12)  Herman Theonus
Wilkinson upon graduation
from High School, circa 1923.
(13)  Herman T. Wilkinson aged
19 or 20, so about the year
1925.  This would be the time
when he was working on the
Great Lakes on the ore carrying
ships.
(14)  Marie Wilkinson in her
High School graduation photo,
circa 1921.
(15)  William Blackburn and
Marie Wilkinson Blackburn.
Date unknown.
(16)  The ship that Herman T. Wilkinson worked on in the Great Lakes in the mid
1920's.  I don't know if this is the only ship he worked on.  This photo hung in Hermans
den (Jerry's old bedroom) for as long as I can remember at his New Castle home.  I
always had the sense it was a piece of his oat sowing youth that he relished having on
the wall to look at.
(17)  A selection of post cards that have come down to me written by Herman
Wilkinson while working on the Great Lakes.  Written to his mother, Minnie.  By 1925
James and Minnie have divorced and Minnie has remarried to a man named Ed Lawe.
The 1920 census lists James and Minnie as together at a rural farm address.  So the
troubles and the divorce happened between 1920 and 1925.
(18).  Herman Wilkinson married Bea Miller in 1927.  His free days on a ship ended
and he found employment at Chrysler motors in the Tool and Die Shop.  He did well at
Chrysler and weathered the Depression years better than most it would seem.  In this
photo taken in either 1931 or 1932 the young family (thats Ellen Jane Wilkinson in
Herman's lap) poses in front of a new car looking prosperous.
(19)  Photo taken on a 1937 trip to Florida.  Pictured are William and Marie Blackburn
and Bea Wilkinson, Helen Blackburn, and Ellen Jane and Jerry Wilkinson.  Another of
my favorite family snapshots, its the Pan Am sea plane I think.
(20)  Family portrait dated 1937 of Herman and Bea Wilkinson with Ellen Jane and
Jerry.  This is in a beautiful Art Deco Frame and looks to have been shown prominently
at the time.
Ellen Jane and Jerry
Wilkinson sometime in the
1940's.
(21)  Jerry Wilkinson,
dated on the back 1944.
